Do You Think Humans Will Have To Do Less Work As Technology Expands?

Do you think eventually, as technology is slowly taking over many jobs, humans will have to do less work and technology and “robots” will do most of it? Does that mean everyone will have more leisure time in the future?
Technology Expands, Have, Humans, Less, Technology, Think, Will, Work
We won’t do less work. We’ll do different work.
I don’t think the total work load will ever truly go down, it will just shift to new things. The same way the invention of the technology of the car didn’t reduce workload. Yeah, people didn’t need to take care of horses anymore, but those care-takers didn’t get leisure time out of the deal. The new tech merely shifted the work from feeding, bathing, and cleaning up after horses to the paving of roads, the building of auto mechanic shops and oil refineries, the rise of gas stations and drive-thru eating, and quadrupled rubber production in a few years time. The new technology just created new types of jobs and work is all.
Computers and robots are no different.
Jobs may become more based on intellect and less on manual labor, but each invention will only open new industries (where were the aircraft design and building jobs prior to the invention of the airplane? And good luck finding an internet system administrator just 25 years ago). There are 10 times more atmospheric scientists employed today than 20 years ago precisely because of technology. Just look at SETI. It is accumulating so much data so fast that it cannot process it all. They need people to process and make sense of all the data the computers are gathering.
And should we ever start spreading out toward the stars, there will be jobs we cannot even conceive of yet.
This question is harder to answer than it would seem. Factory work is much more demanding than agricultural labor with its seasonal rhythms and its close family ties, but that was a technological advance. I do think a highly technical society is a two tiered society in which the rich and the technicians will have it fairly easy whereas the normals and the less gifted will have less and less work to do, and all of that menial. Then again technology creates its own demands for more efficiency and better tools, which must be invented, creating work for people. If robots become much better they might supplant human labor, leaving most people out of work. That would be a major crises.
From what I’ve seen the exact opposite is true. We are now expected to do even more because of modern productivity tools. The nature of the work will change but if you want to keep your job with an employer now you need to be the most productive person you can possibly be. Even then you could still lose your job due to the economy tanking.
I hope so, humans should not be at desk jobs, we each have the capacity for greater things than 9 to 5.
With more leisure time, people will be able to take the time to understand themselves better, and when you understand yourself, it is easier to understand others. It might just make this world a better place.
It’s not a matter of “having” to do less work.
It’s being “forced” to do less work, unless you
are the “hired technician” to finish the broken down
technology.
No-body has more leisure time.
In-case you haven’t noticed,
we are all putting in our “resumes.” <}:-{(
No.
The ’60s popular sociologist noted that as ever more appliances for homes were being produced, people felt the need to justify there existence by using them all the time.
If you have a bread maker, for example, you stop buying bread and start baking every day and so on . . .
less physical more mental. and no it will not give anyone anymore leisure time. i think we have reached a point in time that if we had more time people would just find more work to fill it with. most people wouldn’t know what to do with more whatever time on their hands. they are workaholics.
No. I think if it ever gets to that stage, technology will be suppressed deliberately so that there will be jobs for people. It already happens to a certain degree. Besides, someone needs to fix the machines when they go wrong.
i believe so. The Idea of advancing Technology is to increase the efficiency of getting work done and making our lives, as humans, easier.
